

Robert Charles ReidNovember 12, 1931 “ February 22, 2016Robert Bob Reid went home to heaven in his sleep on February 22, 2016 at the Applewood Living Center in Longmont, CO. He was 84 years old. He was a dedicated husband, father, grand-father, brother, son, Korean War and Cuban Crisis veteran, attorney, cat-lover and member of his local Southern Baptist Church. He always stood for justice and defended human rights.Bob was born on November 12, 1931 in Birmingham, AL to Edward Francis and Gladys (Mathew) Reid. He graduated from Andalusia High School in 1949, and joined the Air Force. He was honorably discharged after 4 years. Bob attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI), went to undergraduate and law school at the University of Alabama where he graduated with his law degree in 1959. He joined the National Guard in Andalusia when he returned to practice law and was called into active duty during the Cuban crisis.In 1963 he married Joan Elizabeth Wishum in Andalusia, AL. He began raising his family in Alexandria, VA while working in Washington DC where he was an attorney for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, then moved with his family to Denver where he worked for the General Counsel Office for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He later moved back to Alabama before returning to Colorado when he moved to Longmont for his final ten years.Bob was of the Southern Baptist faith; and was very fond of his grand kids and two cats.Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Lucy Deil in 1989; and his son David Reid (Tara) in 2014.He is survived by his wife Joan; his sons Phillip (Susanne) Reid; Michael (Becky) Reid, his daughter Jules Reid and his daughter in-law Tara Reid, his grandchildren Jane Marie, Heather, Hannah, Joy, Sonshe, Millie, and his sister Gatra Mallard.A celebration of life service will be held at 4pm on 5 March at Trinity Baptist Church in Longmont. Additionally, a graveside service will be held in Andalusia, AL, at the family plot at a later date, to be announced.
