

Robert Earl Smith was born in Covington, Indiana on September 22, l929 and went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2015. He married his High School Sweetheart, Beverly Sue Auter on June 8, l951. They enjoyed 63 years together. Bob was a devoted husband and father to his wife Sue and their three daughters, Stephanie, Cyndi and Connie.Bob served honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War and graduated from the School of Military Justice. He served aboard the USS George Clymer and was honorably discharged June 21, 1954. In 1960 Bob went to work for Sinclair Oil Company which later became ARCO. He enjoyed a long career in the oil industry and his job took him around the world and he loved sharing his stories about his world travels. Bob retired from ARCO in l985 but continued to work in the oil industry as an Export Manager.One of the highlights of Bob's life was meeting John Wayne in person and having a one on one conversation with him. He became a collector of John Wayne Memorabilia. Bob loved to fish and tell his fish stories to anyone who would listen.Bob enjoyed volunteering for 8 years to help senior citizens learn how to use the computer. He also enjoyed and became close friends with many of the fellow volunteers during that time.Bob was a longtime member of LifeBridge Christian Church, Faith Builders Sunday School Class and a small Thurs. afternoon Bible Study Group and cherished the friendships he made. Bob was a devout Christian and showed it in his daily actions. Bob and his wife Sue moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1991, and lived there until September, 2014 at which time they moved to Menominee, MI to be near their daughter Cyndi and her family. Bob fought a brave battle against Pulmonary Fibrosis.Bob is survived by his wife Sue, three daughters, Stephanie Hendee, Longmont, CO, Cynthia Elsner, her husband, Robin, Menominee, MI and Connie Kovanda, her husband, Matthew of Castaic, CA, four grandchildren Chelsea Elsner Monfils, Robert Elsner, Tommie Kovanda and Taylor Kovanda and one great-grandchild Caleb Monfils.Memorial Service will be 10:00am, Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, Longmont. A reception will follow at the mortuary. Inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
