

He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley M. Tate and John C. Tate Jr of Greensboro, NC and by his sister-in-law Anne H. Tate.
Rob is survived by his wife of 53 years Judy Tate, his children Emily Tate (Will Rounds) and Nat Tate, and granddaughters Eliza and Sophie Rounds.
He is also survived by his brothers John C. Tate III of Raleigh, NC and Dr. David Tate (Dr. Karen Davis) of Chapel Hill, NC, as well as nieces Meg Tate Ergenzinger and her daughters Ellie and Kate Ergenzinger, and Dr. Rebecca Tate Jones (Dr. Dane Jones) and their daughters Caroline and Sophia Jones.
Rob was a gifted physician (Pulmonologist). He was also an accomplished athlete who enjoyed tennis, skiing and cycling. Rob was a Morehead-Cain scholar at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and received his MD degree from Duke University. He did post-doctoral training at the University of Colorado.
