Ronald L. DeVries

Ronald L. DeVries went to be with his Lord on July 29, 2015. He was born October 21, 1940 in Sanborn, Iowa to John A. and Jennie (Braband) DeVries. When he was two, his family moved to Ogilvie, Minn. where he was raised on a farm. Following graduation from Ogilvie High School, he moved to Denver in 1959 and married Bernadine Meyer in 1960.Ron spent 29 years on the Denver Fire Department and felt privileged to serve. He had many fond memories of that time and made many friends among the firefighters. He retired in 1995.In 2010, he met and married the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbie) Mangold. Although their time together was short, they made the most of it and did extensive traveling across most of the United States and spending the winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona.Ron loved traveling, bowling, watching sports, tinkering and building and fixing things, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and his many friends. He was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John (Clara) and Robert (Danella), his sister Gladys Veldhuisen (John) and his first wife Bernadine.He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Steven DeVries (Sandra), Sandra Young (Guy) and Julie Hicks (Jerry), his sisters Eileen VanderVegt (Fritz) and Phyllis Houtsma (Roy), his brothers Dennis DeVries (Michele) and Richard DeVries (Carol), his stepsons Jeffery Mangold (Susan), and John Mangold, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Hwy, Longmont, CO.
