
Sandy Burks, 50, of Hygiene Colorado, died Friday the 20th of November at her home outside of Longmont. Ms. Burks was born on April 16th, 1959 in San Gabriel, California, and moved to the Lyons area with her family at a young age. She attended Lyons schools for most of her life, graduating as salutatorian in the Lyons High Class of 1977. She married John Bowlick III, of Farmington Hills, Michigan on May 17th, 1980, though they divorced in 2002. They lived in Boulder, Colorado before moving to her current home in Hygiene in 1987. She has two sons, Forrest and Stirling. She enjoyed employment at various local businesses over her life, including Paladin Press in Boulder and the Longmont Daily Times-Call. Afterwards, she started her own housekeeping business, Country Gardens, in 2002, running and operating it on her own until the summer of 2009. She was active in the local community, regularly attending concerts and performances of her sons in the Lyons bands and ensembles. She also was a vocal member of the community opposition to the Airport Road extension. She was an avid baker and gardener, and enjoyed writing and painting.She is survived by her former husband, John, of Longmont, and their children, Forrest, a student at the University of Northern Colorado, and Stirling, a student at Lyons High School. Her grandmother, Marguerite Peoples, mother, Agnes Burks, and father, Charles Burks, all reside in Lyons. She has three siblings; Diane Current, of Wasilla, Alaska, Kathy Burks, of Lyons, and Russell Burks, of Bellingham, Washington.A memorial service will be held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont on Saturday, November 28th at 2pm. Donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choosing.
