Vitus F. Pfeifer, of Longmont, passed away on May 6, 2017 in Boulder, Colorado. His daughters, Sherry and Jackie were at his side. He was 90 years old. Vitus was born on a 1000-acre ranch in Hays, Kansas on March 7, 1927 to Frank B. and Margaret (Younger) Pfeifer. He was married to the late Dorothy Louise Orth on September 14, 1948.
Vitus always kept himself busy working in various vocations throughout his life. Some of the places he worked were the Lyons Lumber Yard, Sterling Stone Quarry and he owned his own business as a custom home builder. Following his retirement, Vitus worked as a school crossing guard in Longmont and was a caretaker of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Mead. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life including carving and woodworking, gardening and Polka dancing. For the past 38 years, Vitus thoroughly enjoyed living in his trailer on Mountain View Avenue and especially appreciated his ability to see and keep watch over the cemetery where his beloved Dorothy was buried. Vitus was a man of simple taste; give him a root beer and a mini cigar and he was content. Vitus’ faith was a significant part of his life. His Catholic Faith and the Sacred Heart of Jesus were first and foremost.
Vitus is survived by his daughters, Sharon Louise Eliasen (Dan) of Berthoud, Phyllis Ann Stewart (Norman) of Arkansas City, KS, Pamela Sue Cross (Jack) of Rogers, AR and Jackie Pfeifer Wolf (Greg) of Loveland; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
