

Wayne Workman, Jr. of Longmont, died June 27, 2010 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 76.Wayne was born on March 12, 1934 in Mount Gay, West Virginia to Wayne Workman, Sr. and Blanche Mills. He grew up in the hills of West Virginia before moving to Longmont to join his grandfather and family. He attended and graduated from Longmont High School. After leaving school he joined the US Marine Corp, serving from 1953 to 1955.Wayne married Orpha Jeffrey on April 6, 1955 in Chapmanville, West Virginia. The couple would move to Longmont. After attending Barber College in Denver, he would open Modern Barber Shop in the 400 block of Main St. He sold the shop in 1967 and took employment with Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats. Retiring in 1991, he spent 24 years at the plant.Wayne had many interests, but enjoyed golf and especially cars, buying and selling with frequency and loving the pure joy of just driving. He enjoyed watching not only his sons, but also his grandchildren's athletic ventures.He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy Church of North Denver.Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Frank Workman and a sister Betty Schmidt.Surviving are his wife of Longmont, two sons Richard (Gina) Workman of Loveland and Jerry (Terry) Workman of Longmont; and four grandchildren Paul (Katy) Workman of Centennial, Julie Workman and her fiance Zeb Sanborn of Frederick, and Brianna and Chad Workman both of Longmont.A visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary.Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 30 at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.Please share your thoughts, memories and condolences with the family at www.howemortuary.com.
