

William ""Bill"" Shupe of Berthoud, died February 10, 2009 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 80.Born in Hygiene, Colorado to William and Inez (Hicks) Shupe on March 27, 1928. He attended Hygiene and Longmont schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, and had the chance to see the South Pacific. He married Shirley Steele, September 16, 1948 in Longmont. Never too far from family and friends, Bill and Shirley built their home southwest of Longmont on the Steele homestead.They enjoyed carving a beautiful yard and gardens out of, as Bill put it, ""A rocky old hillside."" After living there for 36 years they moved to Berthoud, in 1998.As a young man Bill worked for Public Service, Beech Aircraft, and drove 18-wheelers. He retired from the City of Longmont as Supervisor of Building Maintenance in 1992.Preceding him in death were his wife and two brothers Myron and Ralph Shupe.Survived by his daughter Linda (Ken) Lillibridge of Austin, Texas, son Douglas (Lin) Shupe of Berthoud, son Michael (Kate) Shupe of Wheatridge, and a daughter Kim (Dave) Hall of Longmont; 8 grandchildren Stacey (Keith) Foley, Pamela Hawkins, Amy (Bret) Gearhart, Christine (John) Isaacs, Bethany (Jim) Coca, Casey (Jessica) Shupe, Ryan (Leah) Hall, Rhandine Hall (Dave Gerritzen); 8 great grandchildren Keith Jr., Andrew, AJ, Jeffrey, Maddy, Tia, Charlie and one on the way- Baby Hall.He was a man of many stories and adventures. Loved to pull someone's leg and never missed a chance to lead someone down a merry path. He could be described as a chocolate covered cherry- break through the hard shell and find a soft sweet inside.A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Crematory.At Bill's request no services are scheduled.Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
