He was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Elizabeth Shirley; his sisters, Eula, Lina and Sue; his brother, Barney.

He is survived by his daughter, Shonna Gordon (Justin); his daughter, Amanda Shirley (Chris); his son, Jonathan Shirley (Tabatha); his sister, Diana Shirley; his brother, Fuston "Fuzzy" Shirley; his granddaughter, Taylor "Lucy", Lily, Alaina, Caylee; his grandsons, Tipp, Gavin, Sid "Tyler".

Cremation was chosen.
