At 19, Hal proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later worked as a mechanic and went on to become a business owner. Known for his hard work, kindness, and heart of gold, Hal found joy in spending time with his family and working on cars in his garage.
Hal is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Lois Collins Smith; four children, Tony (Brook), Todd, Brittany, and Matthew (Ally) Smith; 12 grandchildren, Samantha (Craig), Savannah, Taylor, Lainey, Kristina, Sara, Alex, Logan, Layla, Ian, Stevie, and AJ; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Craig III; and sisters, Wave and Joyce. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clinton, Jerry, and Gary Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 2:00–8:00 p.m. at Advantage Funeral Home Hardy Chapel 10907 Dixie Hwy, and again on Friday, September 12, from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery.
