Jim was born in Hardinsburg, KY on May 24 1939 and moved with his family to Louisville as a young child.
Jim was an avid cigar and pipe smoker. Since he was a teenager, Jim was active in amateur radio and is a member of ARRL. He volunteered as a radio operator to help with communications during natural disasters in the area. His love of electronics led to his career path at Brown & Williamson - Research Department where he worked until he retired after 26 years. Jim was reunited with his parents, Richard and Emma Pile; son, Christopher Pile; and brother, Johnny Pile.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Ida Sue Pile; son, Michael Pile (Karla); grandchildren, Megan Hammond (Matt), Casey Pile (Mike), and Christopher “C.J.” Pile; great-grandchildren Parker Rose, and Melanie Hammond
Jim also leaves his brother, David Pile and his special buddy, Marty.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday at 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Advantage Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the WKY Relief Fund at secure.kentucky.gov/formservices/Finance/WKYRelief or by sending a check to Public Protection Cabinet, 500 Mero St., 218 NC, Frankfort, KY 40601.
The family also asks that all visitors wear masks for the visitation.
