Kenneth “Kenny” Edward Goodman was born on June 20, 1939, to Edward and Gertrude (Hawkins) Goodman. He left this Earth on December 15, 2025, age 86, to be with his wife Shirley after a short illness. Born in Hart County, he never lost his love of country living and fishing. He was a huge fan of “oldies” music and never met an animal he didn’t like. Kenneth was a master carpenter and painter. He used those skills to make a living but, more important to him, he shared these talents with family and friends whenever a need existed.
In 2005, Kenneth married his long-time friend Shirley. They shared their lives with rescued animals passing through to forever homes and with many troubled pets lucky enough to find home with them. Shirley led him to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he welcomed God into his life and remained an active member after her death.
Kenneth was met at the Rainbow Bridge by his spouse Shirley Goodman, his sister Rose Marie Whelan, his brother James Goodman, his infant sister Delores, his niece Dianne Ragland, his nephew Ricky Whelan, and both parents. He was also greeted by dozens of pets led by his little dog “Barky” who we hope did not bite him for taking so long to arrive.
He is survived by his sister Nancy Luther, stepson Jody Monin, nieces Delores Hatmaker, Melissa Hester, Dawn Abbott, Janet Yarbrough, and Karen Dawson, nephews Tommy Luther and Larry Whelan, and many close friends who loved him like family. He was a quiet man who gave way more than he ever asked in return to family, friends and strangers. His passing leaves a large hole, and he will be missed by many.
A religious ceremony will be held at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1403 S Park Rd, Louisville, KY 40118, on December 23, 2025. The service is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.
Following the religious ceremony, a committal service will take place at Concord Community Cemetery, 2629 Concord Church Road, Bonnieville, KY 42713.
