Leland Rowell “Nick” Nixon, the last surviving child of a remarkable family of 22, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who cherished him at the age of 88.
Growing up in a large and lively household, he carried with him the strength, resilience, and deep family loyalty that defined the Nixon family. Born in Brownsville, Kentucky on Tuesday, January 18, 1938, he shared a special bond with his twin sister, whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
For 64 years, Leland was devoted to his beloved wife, Martha — the love of his life and his steadfast companion. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, partnership, and unwavering affection. Together they built a life filled with laughter, hard work, and countless shared adventures.
Leland proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force, embodying honor and dedication in every chapter of his service. After returning home, he spent 25 years with Ford Motor Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and mechanical skill.
A true car enthusiast, Leland found joy in restoring vehicles, talking shop, and cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers. He loved the outdoors just as deeply — hunting, fishing, and finding peace in the quiet moments nature offered. He also loved telling jokes and spent many years square dancing with Martha and dear friends, filling dance halls with laughter and lighthearted fun. But above all his hobbies and passions, nothing meant more to him than his family.
He is preceded in death by his son, Calvin Nixon; his parents, Marion Hughell and Lessie Nixon; his mother and father – in – law, Claudie and Herbert Curtsinger; and sister – in – law, Myrtle Alford, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha, who stood by his side for more than six decades; sisters – in law, Peggy Jorris and Doris Griffin; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family members who will forever carry his stories, his humor, and his love in their hearts.
Leland lived a life marked by loyalty, service, and simple joys. His legacy is one of love — for his wife, his family, his country, and the things that made him feel most at home. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
