

Roy Douglas Dunn, 94 of Louisville, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, October 27, 2024 surrounded by his family at the University of Louisville Hospital. Roy was the perfect definition of a father, the way God intended man to be. He took care of every family member and every situation, even after his death. He was adored and loved by everyone that had the honor of knowing him. Roy was a proud retired Army veteran and a retired employee of the United States Postal Service. In the Army, Roy’s assignments included service as a Paratrooper in the famed 82nd Airborne division, the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment (known as the “Rakkasans”), the legendary 101st Airborne Division, and as a Green Beret in Vietnam from 1967-1968 with the storied 5th Special Forces Group. He was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, KY and was baptized June 21, 1942.
Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Clara Dunn, his four children; Virginia Lee Nebel (Rob), Robert Michael Dunn, Deborah Jean Lunn, Patricia Ann Roney (Jeff), ten grandchildren; Debbie Ann Gibbs, Kathie Lee Betancourt (Joe), Brad Hicks (Andrea), Aaron Trent (Taylor), Dalton Trent (Hannah), Garrett Lunn, Weston Lunn, Allie Simpson (Matt), Sami Roney and Sydney Roney, six great-grandchildren; Vanessa Payne (Nathan), Harlyn Simpson, Easton Trent, Collyns Simpson, Madeline Trent, and Jacob Trent. He was preceded in death by his parents; Roy P. Dunn and Jeanetta B. Rust Dunn.
Roy’s visitation will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Advantage Funeral Home Hardy Chapel 10907 Dixie Hwy. His service will be Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery 2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY 40160.
