With sadness, we must share that Steve Winebrenner 82, of Louisville, passed away on January 10th at University of Louisville Hospital after a long illness. He was born on September 19, 1943, in Decatur, Illinois.
Steve began his working life as a body, frame, and paint technician, spending many years in automotive repair facilities in Quincy, Illinois and later in Louisville, Kentucky. Known for his skill and attention to detail, he built a strong reputation in his trade before pursuing a new professional path.
He later earned an undergraduate and masters degree from University of Louisville, an accomplishment in which he was especially proud. Drawing on both his education and hands-on experience, Steve changed careers and went on to serve as a vocational education instructor for Jefferson County Public Schools, where he helped prepare students for careers in the skilled trades.
Steve was also deeply active in his church, Rockford Lane Baptist, where his passion for teaching continued beyond the classroom. Through scripture and service, he furthered his commitment to guiding and educating others.
He had a deep interest in family genealogy and history, and a lifelong passion for auto racing, the building and fabrication of race cars. Interests he proudly shared and passed on to his son Darin.
Above all, Steve was especially proud of his grandchildren, Harrison and Madison, who brought him great joy and meaning in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Winebrinner and Frances Winebrinner; his sister, Joyce Jones; and his brother, Jim Winebrinner.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ronda Winebrenner; his son, Darin Winebrenner (Lisa); his grandson, Harrison Winebrenner; his granddaughter, Madison Silva (José); and his younger brother, David Winebrinner (Kathy).
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m. on January 15th, 2026, at Advantage Funeral Home-Hardy Chapel, 10907 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. His funeral service will follow at Hardy Chapel at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Beth Haven Memorial Gardens.
