May 26, 1975 – October 3, 2025
Aimee Allison Verdeyen, 50, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones in Lufkin Texas.
Born on May 26, 1975, in Effingham, Illinois, Aimee was the beloved daughter of Harold Hickox and Daphna Short. She was a vibrant soul who cherished life’s simple joys and carried a passion for homesteading and traveling. Her adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature were evident in all she did, from expanding her homestead to exploring new places with those she loved.
Aimee was a devoted mother to her daughter Koren Verdeyen, Koren’s partner Abigail Burfine, and son Adam Verdeyen. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her 4 grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.
She is also survived by her sister, Melissa Mulvaney, and her cherished nephew, Ethan Mulvaney, and her adoptive dad Arthur Waguespack. Aimee's warmth, creativity, and strength left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She had a generous heart, a sharp mind, and a bright soul that lifted others even in their darkest times.
Aimee's legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and love — values she lived by and passed down to future generations. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in Aimee’s honor.
