

Funeral services for Alice Evelyn McBride Standley, 91, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 in the Henderson Chapel of First United Methodist Church, with Reverend D. Nick Sholars officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Standley was born January 14, 1923 in Crecy, Texas to Jim Tom McBride and Jewel Bennett McBride. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in Tyler.
Formerly of Trinity County, she attended Centerville School. Mrs. Standley had resided in Lufkin most of her life where she had an extended career in sales with Cavanaugh Jewelers, assisting brides with registry selections and at Clark’s Department Store, where her flair for fashion, clothes, makeup, and accessories made her a customer favorite. The most important things to Mrs. Standley were the Lord, her family, and friends. She had a strong and genuine interest in the lives of others which, along with her warmth, wit and magnetic personality, drew people to her and granted her the gift of bringing others together. She was extremely personable and was quick to share a kind word.
Mrs. Standley also enjoyed cooking and hosting friends and loved ones for holidays, family gatherings, and spirited games of Canasta. A member of Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Standley was a woman of strong faith, always armed with an attitude of gratefulness to the Lord, and she demonstrated His love on a daily basis.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Doug Arnold of Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Mary Lou Standley of Lufkin; son, David Standley of San Antonio; daughter-in-law, Dianne Standley of Pollok; niece, Rhonda McBride Crenshaw of Mesquite; grandsons, Doug Standley and fiancée Marion Parrott of Lufkin, Mark Standley and wife Dena of Pollok, Brian Arnold of Enid, Oklahoma, Scott Standley and fiancée Maxine Mathews of Tyler; granddaughters, Shanna Standley Hetherwick and husband Brett of Houston, Alison Arnold Bryant and husband Matt of Plano, Meagan Arnold of Plano; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 39 years, Alton Olney Standley, Sr. in 1979; son, Alton Olney Standley, Jr. in 2005, granddaughter-in-law, Kari Boyd Standley; and her eight siblings, Pauline McBride Dwire, Burl Sanford “Pete” McBride, James Roland “Bill” McBride, Julius Edward McBride, Jim Tom McBride, Jr., Bennett McBride, Benford McBride; and an infant sibling.
Pallbearers will be Doug Standley, Mark Standley, Scott Standley, Brian Arnold, Matt Bryant, Brett Hetherwick and Chris Copenhaver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Joseph Standley and Daniel Lee Standley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
