

Growing up, Barbara's family worked in the cotton and logging industries. They moved many times, residing throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona. She married Melvin King in 1958, raising their three children in the Houston-Dayton area. In 1985, she relocated to Lufkin, TX where she met Oran Johnson. They lived happily in Zavalla, TX until her passing. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was precious, charitable, humble and kind. She loved everyone she met. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Johnson Missionary Baptist Church in Zavalla.
Survivors include her husband, Oran Johnson; son David King, both of Zavalla; daughters and husbands, Terri King Hoyt and Tim of Odessa and Sherri King Nelson and Kerry, of Green Cove Springs, FL; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Roberts; sisters, Saundra Stanley and Ruth Fingleman; brothers, Charles Roberts and Claude Hill Roberts; step-sons, Van Johnson, Bruce Johnson; step- daughter, Terri Runnels; step-sons, Keven Johnson and Carey Johnson; step-daughter, Anita Bitner; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Curtis Eugene King; brother, Josh Roberts; and sister Juanita Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Tim Hoyt, Kerry Nelson, Darren Bitner, Jessie Jacks, Bill Roberts, Greg Roberts and Bruce Runnels.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 in Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Horn officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Linney Creek Cemetery in Dayton.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
