

Services for Carlton “Dan” Emerson, 70, of Wells, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Paul Mettlen officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.
Mr. Emerson was born November 2, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Adell (Luce) and Raymond Emerson. He passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Emerson loved life and had a joke for everyone. He was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was an avid shooter and a member of the Angelina Rifle/Pistol Club. He was a stern father who instilled integrity into his children and grandchildren. His motto was “He was a man of his word” and he did it. He loved bluegrass music and enjoyed having his nieces sing with him. Mr. Emerson was a Bible scholar. He had an influence on many lives and led many to the Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Jonnie Emerson of Wells; son, Danny Emerson of Forest; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Jim Maddox of Wells; grandchildren, Fadra Blume Terrel of Forest, Dallas Stanley and wife Jessica of Central, Dillan Emerson of Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Kenzie Emerson of Huntington; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Emerson was preceded in death by his brothers, Rayford “Cotton” and Ed; and sister, Marie Grubbs.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Wise, Stevie Wise, DaKota Emerson, Dallas Stanley, Everett Monk, Wayne Monk, and Dillan Emerson.
Honorary pallbearers will be “Punkin” Martin, Jim Maddox and Steve Wise.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
