Charles Dwayne Mayes

Services for Charles D. Mayes, 81, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Mark Livingston officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Services will be conducted by Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Mayes was born September 21, 1933 in Red River County, Bogata, Texas, the son of the late Faye (Mauldin) and Archie P. Mayes. He passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in a local hospital.

Mr. Mayes graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo Junior College. He served his country in the United State Army and served for 16 months in Korea. He married Martha Jones on December 30, 1958. He was the owner/operator of C M Trucking Co. He loved his family. He enjoyed raising and racing thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed being at home, working his horses, and being with his family. Mr. Mayes was a member of Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Jones Mayes of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Kevin Murray of Bandera and Debra and Brad Wall of Lufkin; grandson, Brance Wall; brother and sister-in-law, L. N. and Rosemary Mayes of Amarillo; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Mayes; and sisters, Wanda Stanfield and Betty Smith.

Pallbearers will be Brance Wall, Kevin Murray, John Jones, Wes Norwood, Taylor Jordan, and Billy Wicker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Mayes memory may be made to the Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 1341, Lufkin, TX 75902-1341; or the Winnie Berry Animal Shelter, 1102 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
