Dorothy Mae Parkey, 92, of Diboll (formerly of Lufkin), was born August 27, 1918 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Bessie Jane (Brannan) and Benjamin Franklin McDonald. Mrs. Parkey passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Parkey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to read and was retired from the Library of Houston. She was a member of the D.A.V. Houston Chapter. Mrs. Parkey was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Vada Parkey; daughter-in-law, Christina Parkey; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Carter; a number of other family members, friends, and caregivers at Trinity Missions.
Mrs. Parkey was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Parkey; and son, William "Sonny" "Bill" Parkey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Allen Parkey, David Parkey, Michael Parkey, Danny Blackburn, T. J. Parkey, Christopher Parkey, Jimmy Lee Parkey and Joe Silva.
Graveside services for Mrs. Parkey will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
