

Services for Elbert Hubbard Bush, Jr., 88, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Dr. Jerome Brimmage, Senior Pastor, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Buddy was born September 23, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Minnie Alberta (Jackson) and Elbert H. Bush, Sr. He passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at his residence.
Buddy graduated from Diboll High School in 1946 as salutatorian. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. After training, he was stationed in Italy. He was discharged in 1949. He was recalled into the Army in January, 1951 and was stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana until September, 1951. He was in the Army Reserve until 1953. Buddy received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University with a major in accounting. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Buddy married Betty Sue Wiley on September 15, 1951, on the 50th anniversary of her paternal grandparents.
Buddy was employed by Temple Industries, DETCOG, and County Auditor for Angelina County when he retired in 1994. He was also a photographer. He loved to hunt, fish, and travel. He loved history, reading and music. He visited many countries and places, including France, Belgium, Gallipoli, Hadrian’s Wall and Saddam, Libya, Egypt, Italy, Russia, Cornwall, Ireland, Ypres, Mons, Brussels, Scotland and England.
He loved dogs and had many during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Bush; son, Mark Wiley Bush; daughters, Karen Harris and husband Terry, and Karol Brown and husband Kent; granddaughters, Hannah Harris and Kassidy Brown; grandson, Caleb Harris; step-grandchildren, Drew William Brown and Leslie Brown Baucom; sister-in-law, Dixie Lee (Wiley) Welch; aunt-in-law, Bessie (Wiley) Wallace; and his beloved Chihuahua, Taco. He loved his family. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved them so much.

Buddy’s family wishes to extend special thanks to Verline Hartman, the Veterans’ Administration, Hospice in the Pines, Pinecrest Retirement Center, and Pineywoods Home Health for their care shown to him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
