

Evelyn M. Rye, 85, of Lufkin, was born January 5, 1927 in Marshall, Texas, the daughter of the late Edith Mae and Herbert Luke Miller. She passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 in a local hospital, following a long illness.
Ms. Rye resided in Angelina County for many years, had many friends and cared for many. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, cooking, gospel music and country music, and her dogs. She was a good Christian and enjoyed listening to Billy Graham and Gaither music. She also enjoyed watching Shirley Temple and Gary Cooper movies.
Survivors include her son, Larry M. Rye of Lufkin; daughter, Marilyn E. Rye of Lufkin; granddaughter, Ricca G. Keepers of Pflugerville; grandson, Kaleb D. Rye of Lufkin; nephew, Mike Duke of Homer; 2 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Rye was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Rye; sisters, Doris M. Miller, Verna L. Duke and Shirley Jean Miller; and brothers, Earl Miller and John Miller.
Ms. Rye's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Dr. Kyle Krohn and the 3rd Floor Nursing Staff at Woodland Heights Medical Center for their professional courteousness and kindness in caring for her.
Graveside services for Ms. Rye will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll, with Bro. Bob Lewis officiating. Family and friends may follow in procession to the cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Gipson Funeral Home.
