

Flora loved her Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and she served Him all of her Christian life. She taught private piano lessons to many students, of which some went on to further their musical education. She taught music all of her adult life. She taught children's choir at church for several years. She was instrumental in beginning the handbell choir for adults and children. She played the piano at church before she became church organist, until she got sick. Music was the love of her life, second to God. She also played and directed weddings. She also taught children to play other instruments. She was an avid seamstress and cook. She loved all children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Summers of Lufkin; daughters, Glenda Riffe and husband Clestal of Livingston, Connie Byron of Lufkin; son, Jonathan Summers of Lufkin; and daughter, Joanna Medlin and husband Rob of Corinth, TX; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, D. J. Black and husband Dee of Flin, TX, LaQuita Eastes and husband Randy of Dallas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Summers is preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe and Floris Beaty; and grandson, Jonathan "Little Jon" Summers.

The family welcomes friends to a Celebration of Life at a visitation at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Private Graveside services for Mrs. Summers will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 in Rocky Springs Cemetery in Huntington with Bro. Charles Roberts officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com
