Gerry A. "Yogi" Griffith

Mr. Griffith was born October 24, 1938 in Hopkins County, Texas, the son of the late Estella (Birdwell) and Glenn Griffith. He passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Griffith graduated from Wells High School. He married Carolyn Joan Morgan on November 5, 1960. He went to work at the Post Office as a mail carrier in Lufkin. He later became the Postmaster at Diboll and retired after 33-1/2 years. He enjoyed mowing, hunting, and fishing. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Griffith attended Bald Hill Church of Christ and was a member of the Association of Letter Carriers.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Nealy and Frank Cook of Crockett; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Shannan Griffith and Cary Lee and Amanda Griffith, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Cassidy Cook, Carson Cook, Justin Griffith and Hunter Griffith; brother-in-law, Charles Lynn Morgan of Lufkin; and a number of other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his wife of 51-1/2 years, Carolyn Joan (Morgan) Griffith; and brother-in-law, Floyd Lee Morgan.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Griffith’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at Gipson Funeral Home.
