Mr. Gibson was born July 2, 1917 in Trinity County, Texas, the son of the late Lavada (Pyle) and William Homer Gibson. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Gibson spent his adult working years at the refineries in Jefferson County, Texas. He and his wife Velma also owned a number of small businesses. He was active in the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Shriners in Pt. Neches, Nederland and Wells. He was a Mason for more than 65 years. After retiring to Wells, he served as City Councilman and Mayor of Wells.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Deanna Gibson; daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Lewis Cobler; son, Michael Gibson; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Maxine McKnight and Eloise Greenville; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Velma Gibson, on December 4, 2017; 4 brothers; and 1 granddaughter.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:15 p.m. until service time Thursday at the cemetery.
