

He was born in Lufkin on November 6, 1983 to Kathy Capes. He is a graduate of San Augustine High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps for several years with an honorable discharge. He married his wife Valerie Capes in August 2013.
James was a devoted husband, stepfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and working on his truck. He was excited for the upcoming arrival of his daughter, Kylie. He was employed as a motor man with Nabors Drilling USA.
James Capes is survived by his wife, Valerie Capes; stepsons, Ryan Fisher and Brody Finley; and his soon to be daughter, Jema Kylie Marie Capes; sister, April Castanon, nephews, Jacob and Blake Castanon; niece, Candice Castanon; great nephew, Brayden Castanon; mother-in-law, Yolanda Sosa-Tamez; sister and brother-in-law, Alyssa and Harley Walker; niece, Kensley Walker; nephew, Easton Walker; brother-in-law, Joey Sosa and a host of friends from Nabors Rig M08 and M52.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Capes.
Pallbearers will be Joey Sosa, Harley Walker, Jacob Castanon, Blake Castanon, Steven Craig, and Charles Hall, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Fisher, Brody Finley, and Brayden Castanon.
Services for James will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Vic Bass officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
