Known for many things, she was most often praised for her sweetness and gentleness. She touched lives wherever she was, and all who knew her loved her. Her family remembers her for her quiet strength and good advice that have carried them through good times and trials in their lives. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, in 1975, but she did not begin teaching until the mid 90s, when she taught the first through third grade at Stillwaters Learning Center. She left to take care of her mother from 1996 until 2010. She was an active caregiver to her mother, her grandmother, Maxie Lee McCarty, and her mother-in-law, Kathleen Dixon. She enjoyed working with kids and began tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center in Lufkin. She loved the Lord, her family, and her church family at Carpenter’s Way.
Survivors include her husband Dickie Dixon; two daughters and son-in-laws, Sasha and Richard Sutton, and Sara and Aaron Patten; five grandchildren: Caleb Tippit, Tyler Tippit, Seth Tippit, Emma Patten and Laura Patten; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Susie Treadwell. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Luther Allen and Maxie Lee (Shaw) McCarty.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Dixon’s name may be made to the Pregnancy Help Center, P.O. Box 111, Lufkin, Texas 75902, or to Love Inc, P. O. Box 153311, Lufkin, Texas 75915.
