

JoAnn worked for 3 years as the Traffic Dept. Secretary at A&NR Railroad, then transferred to Southland Paper Mill in the Mill Services Data Center, the Insurance Department, and the Personnel Office. She retired as Administrative Assistant to the Human Resources Manager in 1991 after 22 years at the mill.
She married Denton McCoy on October 20, 1990. He was the love of her life. Together, they were active members of the Mounted Patrol and the Benefit Rodeo. They also square danced for several years, with Mrs. McCoy sewing the outfits for both of them. She was an extremely talented seamstress and quilter.
Denton and JoAnn were devoted to their church, Mt. Zion Baptist, for many years. Even after Denton's passing, she continued to drive as long as she was able. They had many precious, lifelong friends in the church. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who would always go the extra mile for those she loved.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jimmy Dixon; her sons, Michael Weaver and Richard Weaver; son-in-law, Phillip Adkison; five stepchildren and spouses, with special appreciation for Steve and Berlene McCoy for their kind attention after Denton's passing; grandchildren Jeremy Dixon, Jennifer Kroeker, Joshua Dixon, Michelle Weaver, Skye Page Smith, Brandi Page, Clayton Weaver, Larkin Weaver, Lucas Weaver, and Andy Weaver; 14 great-grandchildren, including her very special grandchild Taylor Martin; 11 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Denton McCoy, her brother Billy Ray Gibson, her daughter Brenda Adkison, her daughter-in-law Christine Weaver, and her close cousin Betty Adler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. JoAnn will be laid to rest in Berry Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Dixon, Joshua Dixon, Clayton Weaver, Lucas Weaver, Taylor Martin, and Brady Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Andy and Larkin Weaver.
