

Born on May 11, 1978, John was a lifelong East Texan known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and love for the outdoors—especially fishing, one of his favorite pastimes. He worked as a security guard within the prison system alongside his mother, and more recently served as a substitute teacher with Diboll ISD, where he enjoyed connecting with and encouraging students.
John was preceded in death by his father, Doug Wilson; grandfather, John Wilson; granny, Ruth Wilson; grandmother, Opal Mettlen; and grandfather, Malcom Mettlen.
He is survived by his mother, Naomi Holeman; sister, Tonya Calderon and husband Jesus Calderon; brother, Sean Wilson; nieces and nephews, Jose, Victoria, and Liliana Calderon; and several cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to visit and share memories on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.
John will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, and the quiet strength he brought to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
