Jose Hernandez Serrano

Mass of the Christian Burial for Jose Hernandez Serano, 83, of Lufkin, will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Gavin Vaverek, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with the family receiving friends and loved ones from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Hernandez was born January 27, 1933 in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of the last Victoria Serano and Cruz Hernandez. He passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Hernandez was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Louisiana Pacific.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maria Inez Hernandez of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Arturo and Leticia Hernandez of Lufkin; daughters, Maria Hernandez and Maria Duron, both of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Rocky Perez and Dora E. and Roberto Garcia, all of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jose J. and Naira Hernandez of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Guadalupe and Abelino Cordero of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Juan and Melissa Hernandez, Humberto and Rachel Hernandez and Andres and Maria Hernandez, all of Lufkin; 34 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Hilarion Torres of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vicente Hernandez of Lufkin, Pedro and Rosa Hernandez of Mexico, Ramon and Lidia Hernandez of Coleman, and Gregorio and Socorro Hernandez of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his sons-in-law, Juan Menchaca and Jesus Duron, Jr., sister, Maria Moreno; and brother, Asuncion Hernandez.

Pallbearers will be Arturo Hernandez, Jose J. Hernandez, Juan Hernandez, Humberto Hernandez, Andres Hernandez and Abelino Cordero.
