

Katherine Vestal Bentley, 92, daughter of the late Hazel Ellen (Cooper) Quarles and Hugh Vestal, was born September 2, 1933, in White City, Texas and passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in a local hospice facility.
Mrs. Bentley loved spending her time cooking and tending to her beautiful flower beds. She and her late husband, George, were well known for their thriving vegetable gardens and shared love of fishing. Mrs. Bentley also loved to crochet and made many things for loved ones. Above all, Mrs. Bentley cherished her family, who were her greatest joy. She was a devoted member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church for 46 years, where her faith and kindness touched many lives. Mrs. Bentley started working at Atkinson Candy Company in 1976 and retired in 1999.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Janice and Bobby Oates of Central, Billy Bentley of Central, Eddie and Faith Bentley of Lufkin and Jennifer and Jason Holder of Lufkin. Brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Linda Vestal of Lufkin, and sister-in- law, Yvonne Vestal of Hull.
Grandchildren and spouses, Dennis Oates of Central, Stuart and Tracy Oates of Central, Shanda and Keith Robertson of Central, Zach Bentley of Lufkin, Caleb Bentley of Lufkin, Christopher and Lindsey Bentley of San Augustine, Candy and Sandy Kong of Lufkin, Caylon Bentley of Lufkin. Great-grandchildren and spouses, Lauren Oates of Fargo, North Dakota, Lindsay Oates of Gulfport, Mississippi, Colby and Ryleigh Oates of Lufkin, Railey and Cotye Lowrie of Central, Logan and Cortney Bentley of Wells, Wyatt Bentley of San Augustine, Piper Bentley of San Augustine, Isaac Bentley of Central, Samuel Nichols of Central, Andrew Robertson of Central, Ayden Bentley, Reznor Bentley, Karson Bentley, Kenslee Bentley all of Lufkin, and Brody Kong of Lufkin. Great-great grandchildren Josie Modisette, Warren Lowrie of Central and Blaire Oates of Lufkin.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Vestal and Hazel (Cooper) Quarles; husband George Bentley; siblings, Bobby Vestal, Lonnie Vestal, L.B. Vestal, and Hazel Morehead and great-grand daughter, Gemma Bentley.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stuart Oates, Zach Bentley, Caleb Bentley, Isaac Bentley, Caylon Bentley and Larry Caples.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice in The Pines, 1504 West Frank St, Lufkin, TX 75904
Services for Mrs. Bentley will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr John Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.
