Margarett Largent Root

Services for Margarett Jane Largent Root, 87, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Max Reynolds officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall at the Church. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Root was born July 28, 1929 in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of the late Verda Ardell (King) and Luther William Largent. She passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. Root was a loving wife, mother, aunt, great-aunt and friend. She retired from Southland Paper Mill after working in several departments, including Engineering, Purchasing and Personnel. She was a member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church. She taught Sunday School, was a Directress of the Altar Guild, and a member of the Women’s Association, serving as president. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Lufkin Country Club. She also enjoyed RV travel for many years, as well as sharing her artistic talents, refinishing furniture, embroidery, quilting and sewing. Most recently, she joined the Quilt Guild of the Pineywoods.

Survivors include her daughter, Susanne Root of Overland Park, Kansas; son, David Root of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ralph Lowry Root; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Bob Root, Paul Root, Jeff Root, Cecil Roach, Jason Merriwether, and Jamie Carlile.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Root’s memory may be made to St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904; Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904; or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
