Margie Beth Parrott

Services for Margie Beth (Modisette) Parrott, 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Kevin Poage and Bro. Josh Poage officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery.

Mrs. Parrott was born February 6, 1937 at home in Lufkin, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Sarah Jane Gillikin and Alvin Alexander Modisette. She went to be with her Lord Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Lufkin, Texas.

Margie graduated valedictorian of her class at Central High School in 1955, and then attended Piney Woods Business College where she completed the Executive Secretarial Course. She worked for eleven years for National Life and Accident Insurance Company in Lufkin, Texas. Mrs. Parrott was joined in Holy Matrimony to Willie Dee “Buster” Parrott on September 5, 1959. She was a loving and devoted wife for 45 years until her husband’s passing in 2005. She and Buster lived in Houston, Texas for 35 years, where they raised their two children, Dean and Sherry. She was employed at The Greensheet on Main Street in Houston, Texas for 17 years until she retired in 2002. While there, she made many dear friends whom she loved and kept in touch with throughout her life. Margie loved to read (especially Stephen King), write poetry and stories, watch scary movies, and had a love of all types of music. During her younger years, she played the piano and accordion in church. She would cook on Sundays for her family, and she was known for her famous fried chicken. She loved her family and friends, always putting others before self. She loved to host holiday get-togethers and threw the best Easter Egg Hunts. She loved to laugh and be silly. She gave the best advice (whether you liked it or not). She was a great comfort to everyone during their time of need. She was the most selfless and giving person her family has ever known. She loved life and would say, “Life is what you make it.” Not only was she a dear wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a true friend to all.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dean D. Parrott and Karen of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Parrott Moore and James Moore of Lufkin. Grandchildren include Jeremy and Amber Parrott of Lufkin, Joshua and Amber Naron Parrott of Lufkin, Cody Young of Illinois, Kristey and Joseph Anthony of South Carolina, Tyler Garlington of Lufkin, Amanda and Andy Cripe of Oklahoma, and Timothy Darnell, Jr. and Rachelle of Missouri. Great grandchildren include Carter and Corbin Parrott, John and Alli Parrott, Amelia and Margaret Darnell, and Aurora Anthony. Baby Cripe is due in February.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parrott was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Dee “Buster” Parrott; grandson, Foster Tilley; and brothers, Jerry “Kimble” Modisette and Charles Edward Modisette.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, September 7, 2017 at the funeral home.
