Mary Sue Wood

Mary Sue Wood, 79, of Lufkin, was born October 29, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Susie Elizabeth (Lowery) and Nick Wallace Carriere. She passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Wood enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, working in her yard and taking care of her animals. She was a member of Kelty's First Baptist Church, and loved working there. She worked for Jim Waters Insurance Company for 48 years as a sales representative.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Jean and Leland Cochran of Pollok; son and daughter-in-law, Sidney Cleon Johnson and Carol Smith of Lufkin; granddaughters, Lisa Vinson, Rhonda Redd and husband, D. B., and Kristy Parker and husband Cody; grandsons, Kevin Johnson and Kasey Johnson and wife Amanda; 12 great-grandchildren; special friend and co-worker, Debby Duren; and a number of other family members and friends.

Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, James Calvin Wood on December 15, 2004.

Pallbearers will be D. B. Redd, Kasey Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Cody Parker, Brett Redd and Randy Futch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Waters and Frank Nolden.

Services for Mrs. Wood will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Browning and Dr. Mark Livingston officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
