Opal Leona Westmoreland

Services for Opal Westmoreland, 93, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Westmoreland was born January 21, 1922 in Hudson, Texas, the daughter of the late Mae (Gann) and Jimmy Stephens. She passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 in a Nacogdoches hospital.

Mrs. Westmoreland was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from Hudson High School and Pineywoods Business College. She was a Christian and member of Trinity Baptist Church for more than 20 years. She grew up a farmer’s daughter, was known for her integrity and strong work ethic.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stephen and Barbara Westmoreland of Tyler; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Herron of Mt. Enterprise; son, Paul Westmoreland of Lufkin; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Starita and husband Nick of Brick, New Jersey and Carolyn Hope of Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Westmoreland was preceded in death by her husband, O. C. Westmoreland; 3 sisters; and 4 brothers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
