

Mr. Kitchens was a very fun loving person and his family was very important to him. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on his family, even though he would be the only one laughing for the first couple of minutes. Mr. Kitchens loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Vietnam War. Phillip was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving him is his wife, Tereasa Kitchens; daughter, Tiffany Jarrell and husband Phillip of Evans, Louisiana; son, Joshuah Kitchens of Burkeville, Texas; daughter, Tami Compton of Hudson; son, Jason Kitchens of Tomball, Texas; daughter, Randi Morley and husband Jeremiah of Hudson; son, Macon Kitchens and wife Melinda of Clovis, New Mexico; son-in-law, Jeff Compton of Lufkin;19 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers, James Paul Kitchens Jr. and wife Jan of Dallas, Texas, Michael Kitchens and wife Linda of Trinidad, Texas, Tony Mettlen and wife Kimberly of Etoile; brother, Billy Kitchens of Beaumont, Texas; sister, Candy Hillin of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Melva Kitchens of Toole, Texas, Cindy Duke and husband Curtis of Redland, Charlene Squyres and husband Trent of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Barney Hall and wife Melissa of Doucette, Texas; mother-in-law, Oleta Hall of Diboll; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Phillip was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, James Paul Sr. and Evelyn Kitchens; mother and stepfather, Frank and Erma Nell Mettlen; 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday September 4, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Dennis Cook and Phillip Jarrell officiating. Internment with military honors followed in the Berry Cemetery.
