Robert Glenn Mathews

Robert was a member of Clawson Assembly of God Church. He attended school at Central ISD. He worked for Lufkin Typewriter and Lufkin State School.

Robert was an avid fan of any sports event on the "hill" at Central. He went with the Bulldogs on many road trips. He was very proud to have gone with the baseball team to State in 1983.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Trish Mathews of Lufkin; uncle and aunts, Dallas and Lee Sanders, Juanita Johnson and Betty Stanley, all of Lufkin; an several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Kenneth Mathews and Bruce Lloyd Mathews.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hatcher, Fenley Cartwright, Tommy Sanders, Matt Sanders, Craig Teer, Joey Teer, Chris Murray, and Zac Kennedy.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the 1983 State Champion Central Baseball Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's memory may be made to Central Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Fund, 1856 Kirkland Road, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or Cross Timbers Cowboy Church, 4977 U. S. Hwy 69 North, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

A very special thank you to the Gary Hatcher family for being Robert's very special friends over the years.

Services for Robert will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Fred Smith and Jerry Mathews officiating. The eulogy will be given by Jack Lee. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
