Rothey Ann Maxwell

July 31, 1943 - January 27, 2025

A Celebration of Ann's Life will be held at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, TX on Friday January 31, 2025 at 10 am.

Rothey “Ann” Upton Maxwell of Lufkin was born on July 31, 1943 in Pacolet South Carolina to the late Leon and Annie Fowler Upton and died on January 27, 2025.

Ann was the seventh of eight children and moved to Beaumont, Texas with her older sister’s family after high school. She made a life in Texas, living in Houston and Corsicana before settling in Lufkin with her family in 1973. Ann was a homemaker and a business owner as the creator of the Bluebonnet Pageant system of Texas in the 1980’s. She later worked in sales for the William George company, retiring in 2008.

Ann is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Stacey and Bryan McCarty and Kristi and Trey Golden, all of Lufkin. Grandsons Reed McCarty and wife Te’a of New Braunfels and Mason McCarty of Lufkin. Granddaughters Savannah Haney and husband Patrick of Lufkin and Sarah Lansford and husband Joseph of Ft. Worth, great grandchildren Baker Haney, Hudson Haney and Mae McCarty, her sister, Zell Upton Bailey and many wonderful extended family members in South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Howard Maxwell, her brothers, Wofford Upton, Thomas Upton, Levant Upton, Harold Upton and CW Upton as well as her sister Betty Upton Pressley.

Ann’s family would like to extend our love and gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Pinnacle, The Joseph House and Affinity Hospice.
