Sylvia Forsythe, a cherished member of the Huntington, TX community, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on November 21, 1941, Sylvia lived a life marked by love, music, and devotion.
Sylvia was married to her beloved husband Peyton for 64 years. Together, they shared a deep passion for music, performing as members of the bluegrass group Angelina Grass. Sylvia’s musical talents were a joy to all who knew her; she skillfully played both the harp and the banjo. Her love for music was only surpassed by her love for her family and her faith.
A hardworking and devoted family woman, Sylvia supported her loved ones with unwavering dedication. After 36 years of hard work, Sylvia retired from LCTX. She was known for her warm heart, always ready to lend a helping hand and never meeting a stranger. Her advice, often delivered with a gentle smile, was that “you’d get more with honey than vinegar.”
Sylvia had a zest for life, finding joy in fishing and going on cruises with her husband. Her faith in the Lord was central to her life, and she embraced every moment with a spirit of kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her daughter, Darenda Mullins and her husband William; her grandson, Chase Mullins; her granddaughters, Chasscie "Luna" Mullins, Lacie Bass and her husband Michael, and Amanda Forsythe; her sister, Louise Anderson; and six great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Peyton Forsythe, her son Daryl Peyton Forsythe, her parents Jeff and Selma Bond Billingsley her brothers Walter, Willard, Robert, Jimmy & baby Nathaniel Billingsley and her sister Lorena Redd.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, TX. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., also at Gipson Funeral Home. Sylvia will be laid to rest at Whitehouse Cemetery.
Her family and friends will remember her for her love, laughter, and the melodies she shared. Sylvia’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
