Tommie Rae Lester

Tommie Rae (Wells) Lester, 86, of Lufkin, was born September 9, 1924 in Diboll, Texas, the daughter of the late Liddie Irene (Burkett) and Thomas Burr Wells. She passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Lester was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a retired manager of Sunbeam Bread Store. Mrs. Lester enjoyed quilting, canning, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include her son, Tom Lester; daughters, Betty Lester and Peggy Waggonner; grandchildren, Paige Neal and husband Brad, Jason Currie and wife Karen, Jacob Currie, Amy Orbin and husband Will, Anna Currie, Joseph Waggonner and Garland Waggonner; great-grandchildren, Cody Neal, Hayley Neal and Matt Neal; sister, Faye Walsh; brothers and sisters-in-law, W. J. and Mary Wells, Tommy and Nancy Wells and Glenn and Beverly Wells; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lester was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Lester; and sister, Odie Holcombe.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Currie, Jacob Currie, Joseph Waggonner and Garland Waggonner; and her great-grandchildren, Cody Neal, Matt Neal and Hayley Neal.

Graveside services for Mrs. Lester will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery, with Reverend Randy Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
