Vera (Ellerbee) Monson

Funeral service for Vera Ellerbee Monson, 94, of Lufkin, Texas, will be held at 3PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home with Chaplain Jason Olive officiating. Interment will be for family at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur, Texas.

Mrs. Monson was born October 9, 1929 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, daughter of the late Mary (O’Grady) and Carl Leon Ellerbee. She passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in her residence.

Vera was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a Houston Astros fan who knew the game well. She enjoyed crocheting and playing dominoes with her family, especially train.

Survivors include son, Kyle Monson and wife, Connie; daughter, Jennifer Sworn and husband, Bill of Nacogdoches; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Frank James Monson; son, Rodney Monson and wife, Paula; brother, Carl W. Ellerbee; and sister, Dr. Ruth L. Constant.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Harbor Hospice for the excellent care, especially Tracy, Rhonda, and Pearlia. Also, to her loving sitters, Suzanne, Dorothy, Liz, and Lottie.
