

Mrs. Edwards was born December 25, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of the late Hazel (Shumann) and Emit Washburn. She passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Edwards worked in the cafeteria at Coston Elementary School for 15 years. She was a wonderful cook and loved to embroidery. She had a great heart, was an extremely independent woman, and was very ”feisty”. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always wanted to make sure that they were happy. She and her family were very close and she really loved her brothers and sisters. She loved day lilies and always raised pretty flowers.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Nita and Larry Thigpen of Pollok and Edna and Daniel Powers of Lufkin; grandchildren, Tracy Hinson and husband Dennis of Lufkin, Kevin Thigpen and wife Alison of Pollok, Daniel Dyess of Nacogdoches, Tiffany Jeanfavor and husband Garrett of Nacogdoches, and Lisa Green and husband Mark of Etoile; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Hollyn Cates, Owen Hinson, Abbee and Landon Thigpen, Madelyn and Ava Jane Jeanfavor, Taylor Martin, Dakotah Martin, Jace Green, and Grayson Green; sisters, Pauline Kelly, Lily Sanders and husband Charlie, and Raythene and husband Russell Glover; brothers, Jimmy Thompson and wife Barbara, Kenneth Thompson and wife Pearl, and Bobby Thompson and wife Linda; and brother-in-law, Wally Moy and wife Maxine.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Quinton Edwards; sister, Helen Moy; and brother, James Henry Thompson.
Mrs. Edwards’ family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice in the Pines for their service and attention, and to Dr. C. Doyle Haynes and his nurse Judy for their above and beyond service to her.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
