Albert Eugene Akers, 75, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Medical Care Center. He was the husband, of Carol Sue Miller Akers.
Born in Tazewell County, Virginia he was a son of the late William Edgar and Cynthia Stevenson Akers.
He is also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Shutt, and a brother, William E. Akers, Jr.
Mr. Akers was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as manager of Amir Brothers and was a member of Lynchburg Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Albert E. Akers, II. of Roanoke; daughter, Michelle A. (Rick) Alley of Tazewell; Carol’s three daughters, Cheryl (Chip) Reklis, Robin Wion, Cindy (Bruce) Gouge; sisters, Nancy A. (Ed) Altizer, Edith A. (Tommy) Jackson, Patsy A.(Sam) Daniels, Judy A. (Jim) Congrove, Linda Akers all of Tazewell, Betty A. (Allen) Griffith of Princeton, W.VA; Chris A. (J.E.) King of Abingdon; grandchildren, Nikki (Glen) Keen, Carrie Beth Alley; and Carol’s 7 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today, Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Whitten Timberlake Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ray Eure. Interment will be Monday, April 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
