Albert "Mal" G. Malagrifa

Albert G. “Mal” Malagrifa, age 88 of Lynn, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. Mal was the former Director and Assistant Director of Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute from 1980-2000. Prior to his reign as Director and Assistant Director, Mal was the Electrical Teacher and Guidance Counselor. Before his career in education, Mal was a master and journeyman electrician with Local 103. He earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Fitchburg State College. Al spent two years in the Army and was honorably discharged.

Throughout his life, Mal was involved in coaching basketball and baseball. Mal was very active with the Lynn Vocational and Technical Alumni Association up to the time of his death. He ran the night school program at Lynn Tech after his retirement and was on the board of directors of GLSS (Greater Lynn Senior Services). Mal was also an usher at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Lynnfield.

Due to Mal’s lifelong service and dedication to Lynn Tech, he was inducted into the Lynn Tech Hall of Fame, and the Lynn Tech Annex Building was dedicated to his name in 2019.

Born in East Boston on September 6, 1933, Albert was the son of the late Giacinto Malagrifa and Theresa Fiorillo Malagrifa. He attended Charlestown High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. Al was married for 60 years to the late Theresa Lamorte Malagrifa, with siblings the late Sabitino Malagrifa, Louis Malagrifa, Lena O’Neil, Lucia Malagrifa and Lucy Ferullo.

Al leaves his two sons Richard and Steven Malagrifa, three grandchildren Amy Malagrifa, Sydney Merritt, and Ahleigha Malagrifa Perry, and three great grandchildren Bianca Corso, and Isabelle and Caden Merritt. He also leaves two sisters Olga Russo of Swampscott and Mary Walthousen of Santa Barbara California. Albert will also be remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend Mal’s visitation on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield. Burial will follow at Swampscott Cemetery.
