Alice C. Bastable

Alice C. (Ballum) Bastable, Age 90 of Mason, NH, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Alice was born in Saugus, the daughter of the late Nellie May (White) Baxter of Lynn and the late Allen Ballum of Portland, ME. Alice was the wife of the late Arthur F. Bastable of Melrose. She was also the sister of the late George A. Ballum of Cordova, AK and Robert A. Ballum of Deerfield Beach, FL.

Alice is survived by her four beloved children: Carol Ann (Ferragamo) MacDonald and her husband, Michael of Rock Hill, SC, John E. Salkins and his wife, Karen of Somersworth, NH, Joanne M. Maimone and her husband, Steven of Gloucester, and Donna L. Greig and her husband, Wesley of Mason, NH. Alice also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to raising her family, Alice also worked throughout her adult life as a certified nurses’ aide in Massachusetts for over 40 years until her retirement at age 70. Enjoying quality time with her family and sharing memories and stories was always her favorite past time. Alice enjoyed knitting and crocheting, country and western music, reading, crossword puzzles and playing BINGO. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriot’s fan.

Alice spent most of her childhood years growing up on Prince Edward Island, Canada. After her retirement, she was blessed to be able to return to her childhood home where she spent many happy and memorable years surrounded by the love and support of her beloved cousin, Gary Ballum and his wife, Caroline and family of Spring Hill, PEI.

Alice is deeply loved by her family and friends for her kind, generous, and loving heart. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her for her quick wit and sense of humor.

A Prayer Service will be held in the CUFFE-McGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 7:30pm. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home prior to the service from 4 to 7:30pm. All other services will be held privately.
