

Auguste "Gus" Desjardins, 94, of Beverly, and formerly of Indiantown, FL., passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Butman) Desjardins, whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Auguste and Athella (Richard) Desjardins. Shortly after graduating high school, Gus enlisted in both the Army and the Navy in 1948 and 1949 respectively. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged after receiving a Navy Occupation Medal. After his service, he graduated from stenography school in 1956, before being employed by the Sunshine Biscuit Company until his retirement. It is then that he and “Dottie” moved to Florida to retire before returning to Massachusetts to spend their final days with family.
While he enjoyed spending his time playing golf, his passion in life was his love for gardening and flowers and he will always be remembered digging in the dirt. “The Glory of Gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. Gus is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Bovio and her spouse Sharon Farnham of Ogunquit, ME., Sharon Luneau of Beverly, Suzanne Raymond of Peabody, and Michelle Straw and her spouse Jason of Beverly. He was predeceased by brothers Rene, Richard, Conrad, Clement, & Francis as well as his sister Cecile McCarran. He was also cherished “Pappy” to Tiffany & Zoe Raymond, Isabelle & Anaiis Straw, and the late Jake Straw. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours for Joseph will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Cuffe- McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, his Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 am with Military Honors. Burial will be private and at a later date.
