Born in Bethlehem, PA on January 22, 1947, he was the son of the late Kenneth Walters and Dianne (Ratzi) Maclean. David grew up in Southern California where he spent his younger years playing baseball, surfing and performing in the theater group at Ulysses S. Grant High School. He moved to Massachusetts in 1968 where he worked as a welder, but music was his true passion, specifically jazz which influenced his first instrument, the upright bass. He worked as a musician, playing both piano and bass and remained a student of music for the entirety of his life, studying both piano and saxophone under some of the area’s greatest musicians. David will be remembered for his smile that could light up any room, his love for his family, and his great ability to connect fellow musicians together.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Gertrude (Harkness) Gross, with whom he shared just shy of 20 years of marriage, his daughter, Erica Filiault and her husband Chad of Laguna Beach, CA, his son, Jonathan Walters and his wife Janelle of Danvers, MA, five grandchildren; Sophia, Jason and Anna Walters, and Ryan and Brooke Filiault.
He was predeceased by two sons, Jeffrey Gross and Jason Gross.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
