

Eleanor (Ellie) R. Simmons, age 85 yrs., of Peabody, died peacefully Sunday, April 10, at her home in Brooksby Village Renaissance Gardens. Her last year was a very happy and content one thanks to the wonderful love and care of the very special people who cared for her daily. Ellie was the wife of Stephen W. Simmons with who she shared nearly 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Born in Beverly on May 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence W. and Ruth (Herrick) Jackson. She graduated from Swampscott High School in 1943, and then worked at General Electric in Lynn until marrying in 1946. Several years after having her two daughters, she enjoyed working at Paul's Market, a little neighborhood store in Swampscott for 20 years. Ellie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Swampscott, where she looked forward to working on church fairs with her husband, Steve. She had many hobbies over the years, but among her favorites were reading, knitting, crewel embroidery and many other crafts. She also looked forward to working a table at the North Shore Cancer Walk at Salem Willows, for many years. Ellie leaves two daughters, Patricia Lucas of North Reading, Joyce Simmons of Peabody, grandchildren, Stephanie Lucas Musgrave and her husband Joe of North Reading, and Christopher Lucas and his partner Nathan Samuels of Salem. She also leaves her loving great granddaughters, Madison, Katie, and Christina Musgrave. Service Details: Ellie's funeral will be held at the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Thursday at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A memorial service will also be held in the Chapel at Brooksby Village at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellie's memory can be made to The North Shore Feline Rescue PO Box 1263, Middleton, MA 01949. This organization was very special to her.
