

Mr. George F. Clarke, 90, of So. Berwick, Maine formerly of Lynn passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in Lahey Clinic Burlington following a brief illness. He is the husband of the late Theresa E. (McGurn) Clarke.
George was born November 28, 1929 in Lynn. He is the son of the late George and Bertha Clarke. He was a resident of Lynn for many years before moving to Largo, FL. In early 2018 George returned to So. Berwick Maine. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1947. He went on to further his education at North Shore Community College where he received his associates degree in 1976.
He was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
George retired as a Sergeant on the Lynn Police Department. He began his career as a reserve on May 14, 1956, he was appointed a patrolman on Oct. 25, 1958. George was promoted to Sergeant on June 13, 1981 and retired in 1986 after serving the City of Lynn for 30 years. George was awarded three commendations. He also drove school buses for Michaud. Earlier in his career, he took photos for the Arson Squad. After retiring, he drove bus for Maine Lines.
He enjoyed golfing, building things, woodworking, and photography. His true devotion was spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his children Michael J. Clarke and his wife Margaret of Lynn, Kathleen A. Clarke of Georgetown, Paula M. Clarke of Lynn, and Janet E. Deveau and her husband John of So. Berwick, ME, his 4 cherished grandchildren Jennifer M. Clarke and her fiancé Patrick Nametz, Joseph M. Clarke and his wife Kristen, Andrew J. Deveau and his companion Chelsea Hoseit and Nicholas C. Deveau and his wife Ashlee. He is also survived by his 4 great grandchildren Anna, Catherine, Meredith, and Grace Clarke as well as several nieces and nephews and his black lab Tess.
In addition to his wife and parents, George was predeceased by his brother Pete Palmieri.
George’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 3 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
